MANILA – Six people were injured when a section of a new bridge in Isabela province in the northern Philippines collapsed, authorities said Saturday.
The provincial disaster risk reduction and management office said the bridge collapsed Thursday morning after a dump truck carrying boulders crossed it.
Construction of the bridge began in 2014 and was completed and opened for traffic on Feb. 1 this year.
The driver of the truck escaped after the incident, but police said he surrendered on Friday morning and is now in police custody.
