5 dead in factory blast in India

NEW DELHI – At least five people died and six others were injured in a blast that took place inside a factory in India’s northwest state of Maharashtra, local police confirmed on Saturday.

The blast happened at the “MMP Aluminium Industries” in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation in Nagpur district late on Friday.

The blast was followed by a massive fire inside the factory. While three people died instantly, two succumbed to burn injuries on Saturday, local police said.

The injured were undergoing medical treatment at a local hospital. All the deceased factory workers were in the age group of 20-25 years, and were residents of Nagpur district.
