TUNIS — Tunisia’s maritime guards found 15 bodies of undocumented immigrants in the eastern coastal province of Mahdia over the weekend, Tunisian radio Mosaique FM reported on Monday.
Among these bodies, eight were discovered on the shore in Salakta, six in Chebba, and one in Melloulech, said the report, citing Farid Ben Jha, the spokesperson for the courts of Mahdia and Monastir.
Ben Jha provided no additional information regarding the identities of the bodies, noting that an investigation has been launched to determine the causes of death.
He announced that these bodies, found in a state of decomposition, had been transferred to a hospital for necessary procedures to determine their identities.
Located in the central Mediterranean, Tunisia is one of the most popular transit points for illegal immigration to Europe.
