3 teenagers arrested over fatal crash in eastern Australia

SYDNEY – Three teenagers have been arrested after a motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving a stolen vehicle that was being chased by police north of Sydney.

Police in the state of New South Wales (NSW) said that officers initiated a pursuit of the vehicle, which had been reported stolen, at about 7:15 a.m. local time on Tuesday near the small town of Gunnedah, more than 300 km north of Sydney.

During the pursuit, the vehicle collided with a motorcycle, critically injuring the rider.

The male motorcyclist was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics but could not be revived and was declared dead at the scene.

Three 14-year-old occupants of the stolen vehicle were arrested and taken to a nearby police station.

NSW Police said a critical incident investigation has commenced and it will also be subject to an independent review.
