GAZA CITY, Palestine / ANKARA – At least 81 Palestinians, including children, were killed on Sunday in a series of Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip, according to medical sources and local reports.

In Gaza City, 25 people were killed when Israeli warplanes bombed two homes sheltering displaced families in the Sheikh Radwan and Al-Nasr neighborhoods, a medical source said.

Eyewitnesses said the houses were filled with sleeping families, mostly women and children, when the strikes occurred. Several people remain trapped under the rubble.

The Israeli army killed four Palestinians and injured 25 others after targeting civilians near an aid distribution point south of Wadi Gaza in the central Gaza Strip, according to a statement from Al-Awda Hospital.

Six people also lost their lives and several others were injured when Israeli fighter jets shelled two civilian gatherings in Gaza City and the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, medics said.

An Israeli drone also hit a civilian car in the Al-Saftawi neighborhood in northern Gaza City, leaving three brothers dead.

Another Israeli drone strike targeted a tent sheltering displaced Palestinians in Sheikh Radwan, killing three and injuring others, according to health officials.

In western Gaza City, seven people, including children, were killed when Israeli warplanes bombed a school-turned shelter in the Shati refugee camp, medics said.

Medical sources at Al-Shifa Hospital said the victims arrived in pieces, while dozens of others were brought in with various injuries due to overcrowding at the shelter.

Elsewhere in Gaza City, at least two people were killed and others injured in an Israeli strike on a residential home in Al-Tuffah neighborhood.

Several people remain trapped under the rubble, with medical teams unable to reach them due to the dangerous security situation, witnesses said.

An Israeli drone struck a car in northern Gaza City, leaving three Palestinians dead, a medical source said.

Overnight, three people from the same family were killed and others injured in an Israeli airstrike on their home in the Al-Daraj neighborhood of Gaza City, a source at Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital confirmed.

In southern Gaza, at least 10 people, including children and a pregnant woman, were killed in two Israeli air raids on makeshift tents for displaced civilians in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis, medical teams at Nasser and Kuwait field hospitals reported.

Medics said four more bodies, including three children, were recovered from the rubble following another drone strike on tents near the Al-Albani Mosque in Khan Younis.

Israeli forces also bombed residential and civilian structures in eastern Gaza City and northern parts of the enclave overnight, with residents reporting continuous explosions throughout the night.

In central Gaza, an Israeli shell injured a Palestinian fisherman off the coast of Deir al-Balah while he was working.

Eight people from the same family were also killed by an Israeli drone strike on their tent in the Nusseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.

In another attack, three people lost their lives after an Israeli strike hit their home in the same refugee camp. Operations to rescue those trapped under the rubble are still ongoing.

  • Death toll from Texas floods reaches 43; many still missing

Some 43 people, including 15 children, have been confirmed dead following flash floods in central Texas, authorities said on Saturday as rescuers continued a frantic search for campers, vacationers and residents who were still missing.

Officials said more than 850 people had been rescued, including some who were clinging to trees, after a sudden storm dumped up to 15 inches of rain in an area around the Guadalupe River, about 85 miles (137 km) northwest of San Antonio.

Among the missing were 27 girls from the Camp Mystic summer camp, Kerrville city manager Dalton Rice said at a press conference on Saturday evening, and there may be others beyond that.

“We are kind of looking at this in two ways called the known missing, which is the 27 … We will not put a number on the other side because we just don’t know,” Rice said.

The disaster unfolded rapidly on Friday morning as heavier-than-forecast rain drove river waters rapidly to as high as 29 feet.

KERRVILLE, Texas – Rescuers scoured flooded riverbanks littered with mangled trees Saturday and turned over rocks in the search for more than two dozen children from a girls’ camp and many others missing after a wall of water blasted down a river in the Texas Hill Country. The storm killed at least 37 people across the state, including 14 children.

Some 36 hours after the floods, authorities still have not said how many people were missing beyond 27 children from Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp along a river in Kerr County where most of the dead were recovered.

The destructive fast-moving waters rose 26 feet (8 meters) on the Guadalupe River in just 45 minutes before daybreak Friday, washing away homes and vehicles. The danger was not over as torrential rains continued pounding communities outside San Antonio on Saturday and flash flood warnings and watches remained in effect.

July 5 – Some 32 people, including 14 children, have been confirmed dead following flash floods in central Texas, authorities said on Saturday as rescuers continued a frantic search for campers, vacationers and residents who were still missing.

Officials said more than 850 people had been rescued, including some who were clinging to trees, after a sudden storm dumped up to 15 inches of rain in an area around the Guadalupe River, about 85 miles (137 km) northwest of San Antonio.

Among the missing were dozens of people from the Camp Mystic summer camp, most of them reported to be young girls, after river waters rapidly rose 29 feet.

“We know that the rivers rise, but nobody saw this coming,” said Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly, the top local official in the region.

Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha said eight of the confirmed dead, including three children, had yet to be identified.

The U.S. National Weather Service said the flash flood emergency has largely ended for Kerr County, following thunderstorms that dumped more than a foot of rain. That is half of the total the region sees in a typical year. A flood watch remained in effect until 7 p.m. for the broader region.

Kerr County sits in the Texas Hill Country, a rural area known for rugged terrain, historic towns and tourist attractions.

  • UK police arrest over 20 supporters of now banned pro-Palestine group

LONDON, July 5 – British police arrested over 20 people on suspicion of terrorism offences after they showed support for the newly banned Palestine Action group in London on Saturday, hours after the proscription came into effect.
The government moved to ban Palestine Action under anti-terrorism laws last month after its activists broke into a Royal Air Force base and damaged two planes in protest against what the group said was Britain’s support for Israel.

Late on Friday, the campaign lost an urgent appeal against the parliamentary vote to proscribe it as a terrorist organisation, with the ban coming into force from midnight.

Under UK laws, offences include inviting support, expressing approval, or displaying symbols of a banned group and are punishable by up to 14 years in prison and/or a fine. Britain has proscribed 81 groups under anti-terrorism laws, including Hamas, al-Qaeda and ISIS.

On Saturday, supporters gathered in Parliament Square in Westminster, some holding placards that said “I OPPOSE GENOCIDE. I SUPPORT PALESTINE ACTION.” Sky News footage showed some being led away in handcuffs from a statue of Indian independence hero Mahatma Gandhi in the square, as they shouted their support.

United Nations experts have accused Israel of carrying out “genocidal acts” against Palestinians in the conflict in Gaza, which began after Palestinian militant group Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023. Israel has repeatedly dismissed such accusations.
