Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyanskiy, stated on Wednesday that the Israeli regime’s military actions in the Gaza Strip have triggered a dangerous escalation across the Middle East, including retaliatory operations by Yemen’s Ansar Allah movement.
The Israeli actions in Gaza “have triggered escalation in the whole Middle East, including by Ansar Allah,” Polyanskiy said during a UN Security Council session.
Polyanskiy made it clear that while Moscow does not endorse strikes against the Israeli occupation by Ansar Allah, it considers the Israeli regime’s disproportionate military response in Gaza “unacceptable” and warned that such actions could lead to “the most severe consequences.”
The Russian envoy emphasized the direct connection between the military operations carried out by Ansar Allah and the ongoing Israeli assault on Gaza. He pointed out that it was the brutality of the Israeli regime’s actions, which are resulting in mass Palestinian casualties, that broadened the war’s scope and extended its impact across the entire region.
His comments followed a major announcement by the Yemeni armed forces earlier this week. On Monday, Ansar Allah claimed responsibility for attacking the Magic Seas, a commercial ship en route to Israeli ports. The movement said the ship had violated a maritime ban and was struck with unmanned boats, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and drones, ultimately sustaining heavy damage and beginning to sink. The crew reportedly evacuated safely.
