KIEV, June 23 – An overnight drone and missile attack by Russia killed at least six people and injured 19 others in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev on Monday, said the city’s mayor Vitali Klitschko.
The strikes ignited fires across the city, damaged the entrance to a metro station in the western Sviatoshynskyi district and part of a five-storey apartment building in the central Shevchenkivskyi district, said Klitschko.
As of Monday morning, about 400 search and rescue personnel with 100 units of equipment have been deployed at two sites in the city to address the aftermath of the attack, said Ukraine’s State Service for Emergencies.
Russia launched 352 drones, 11 ballistic missiles Iskander M/KN-23 and five cruise missiles Iskander-K at Ukraine overnight, with Kiev as the main target, said the Ukrainian Air Force.
The air defense forces intercepted 354 aerial targets, including 10 ballistic missiles and five cruise missiles, it said.
